Susan Schantz

Susan McColly Schantz, 75, of Latrobe, PA, died peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023, in Indiana, PA. Born on April 10, 1947 in Greensburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine McColly. Sue was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, Rev. Edward Schantz.

A graduate of Greensburg-Salem High School, Susan continued her education in various ways throughout her life and took pride in her career in communications. She treasured her experience as an editor for the Tribune-Review. She later moved to leadership positions at HealthEast (Lehigh Valley, PA) and Bloomsburg University, before settling at St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network (Bethlehem, PA) where she rose to the position of Vice President, Corporate Communications. Sue was a multiple award-winning writer and communicator who used her talents to aid and grow numerous charities.

As a child and young adult, Sue was a member of Maplewood Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Throughout adulthood, she joined the parishes where her husband served as minister.

Fiercely proud of her family, nothing brought Sue greater joy than being with her children and grandchildren. Her loving, playful nature and passionate convictions will be missed by all who loved her.

Sue is survived by the following members of her immediate family: Jerry, Lisa and Elena Silva of Sherborn, MA; Jeffrey, Janet, Haley and Alyssa Hutchinson of Acme, PA; Jeffrey, Lia and Mathew Parker of Valparaiso, IN; Andrew (Sr.), Michele Donley, Nathan, Adam and Andrew (Jr.) Hutchinson of Greensburg; Michael, Tracy, Cameron and Rachel Hutchinson of Greensburg and Ryan, Emily, and Meadow Pocratsky and Noah and Theodore Lilly of Pittsburgh, PA. Additional survivors include her brother, Robert McColly (Dee) of Ligonier, PA, sister, Patricia Blahovec (James) of Harrison City, PA, sister-in-law, Lois Schantz Treese of Allentown, PA and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

There will be no visitation and her family will hold a private celebration of her life and love.
