Patty Jones

Patty Lou (Umbel) Jones, 85, of Hempfield Township, died Jan. 14, 2022.

She was born Aug. 26, 1936, to the late Dorsey and Mariam Umbel of German Township, Fayette County.

She is survived by her husband, George Jones, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years traveling the world from nearby to as far away as Dubai, China and Australia, as well as to family favorite Hilton Head Island, where they spent time each fall for almost 40 years. They shared a love of their family, their church, jazz music, fine dining and a good hot dog and beer.

She also is survived by her children, son David Jones and wife Linda of Eldersburg, Md., and daughter Susan Jones of Hempfield; grandchildren Emma Jones, Seth Blazucki and wife Brittany, and Sarah Blazucki and wife Lisa Van Arsdale; brother Dick Umbel and wife Marilyn; and special cousin, Elaine Rohrer and husband Dave.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Tom Umbel and granddaughter Rachel Dandois.

Patty worked as a secretary for several years for Maplewood Presbyterian Church and Redstone Presbytery. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensburg for more than 50 years, and volunteered for Westmoreland Hospital and Meals on Wheels. And she made a cherry pie that could make anyone’s day better.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1120 Harvey Ave., Greensburg, PA.
