John Hudock

July 27, 1932 — January 23, 2022

John S. Hudock, 89, of Greensburg, peacefully surrendered his soul to God Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and family. John was born July 27, 1932, to the late Major Andrew J. Hudock and Rebecca (Burke) Hudock. He was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret Borden, Mary McCloskey, the Honorable Joseph A. Hudock and Martha Falenski. John is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Mary Joan (Schildkamp) Hudock; his loyal companion, Hennessy; his children and their families, Mary Beth and Anthony Marazza, their children, Jessica (Matthew Geary) Stephanie (Zane Smith) and Anthony; Andrew Hudock and daughter, Jewelie; Carol and David Palcic, their children, Megan and Sean; Margaret Shaffer and children, Jennifer (Brian) Stiffey; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Skylar, Jacob (Courtney) Shaffer; Patricia and Carl Berman, son, Dr. Joshua Kessler (Kaitlyn Moore); Rebecca and Timothy Wentroble, sons, Rockne (Carolina) and William; Steve Hudock; close family friends, Dale Johnson, Lori Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews. John graduated from St. Benedict School, Saint Vincent Preparatory School ('50), and Saint Vincent College ('54), in Latrobe. He worked as a chemist for 41 years at Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he developed several patents, RANBAR Electrical Materials and in retirement as a consultant for Thermo-King. He was a member of various technical and professional associations. John was a fourth degree member and past grand knight of Council 1480 of the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Saint Vincent Alumni Council and former member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Parish Pastoral Council. He was an oblate of St. Benedict at Saint Vincent Archabbey. He held an FAA certificate as a private aircraft pilot and enjoyed aerial photography. John was a family genealogist, volunteered at Saint Vincent Archabbey/Gristmill and St. Emma Monastery. He was awarded the Saint Vincent College "Alumnus of Distinction Award". His hobbies included wine making, photography, genealogy, flying, gardening, camping/fishing and spending time with his family. John will be dearly missed by all. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. An oblate service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Prayers of transfer will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by John's funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Advantage Hospice for the exceptional care given to our father, especially Trish, Misty, Christine and Amanda.
