Obituary

Frank N. Davis, 99 of Greensburg passed away peacefully at home, June 1, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born September 28, 1922 in Wilmington, Delaware, a son of the late Howard and Irene (Bristow) Davis.

Prior to retirement, he was a research chemist for US Steel. A combat veteran of World War II, he served as a captain in the Army Air Corps where he was a member of the 1st Air Commando in the CBI theatre. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Presidential Citation, and the bronze star.  He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Masonic order.  Additionally, he was a life member of the Youngwood Sportsmen’s Association where he served as president, secretary, treasurer, membership chairman, chairman of the club picnic and helped rebuild the clubhouse following a fire.  He also operated the kitchen during trap shooting events.  Frank was a scout master for Troop 419 of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg and he received the Silver Beaver Award from Westmoreland-Fayette Boy Scout Council for his many years of volunteer service.  He was a passionate baseball fan and an avid outdoorsman. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2005, by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude Emma (Walton) Davis and a brother, Robert H. Davis.

He is survived by his loving family, sons, Roger A. Davis (Roberta L.) of Greensburg, William F. Davis (Joyce L.) of Mead, CO. Also surviving are the following grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly and enjoyed all of their activities - grandchildren, Garret W. Davis (Christina M.) Kara A. Burnsworth, Bryan Hansen (Sarah), Jennifer Hogsett (Dean), Kristine Im (Chang); fourteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 N. Main St., Greensburg where services will be held Thursday at 1 pm with Rev. Kevin Haley officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Armbrust Veteran’s Association.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Excela Hospice 501 W.
