Carl Cater

September 24, 1925 — December 23, 2018

Carl Henry Cater, 93, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 in Greensburg, PA.  He was born September 24, 1925 in Wheeling, WV, son of the late George and Helen (nee Baker) Cater.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife Pattie (nee Davis), brothers William and Charles, sister Mary Tiggelbeck and his parents.

Surviving are two children, Carla (Dave) Kuhlman of Coraopolis, PA and David (Kelly) Cater of Evanston, IL; two granddaughters Amy (Isaiah) Bornman and Jill Kuhlman along with six nieces and nephews.

Carl graduated from Tridelphia High School in Wheeling WV and West Virginia University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  At West Virginia, he was a member of ETA KAPPA NU Electrical Engineering Honor Society and PI KAPPA ALPHA fraternity.  He also spent a year at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory studying atomic energy.

Carl served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  He was a member of Elks Lodge #511 in Greensburg, PA, Acacia Lodge #157 of the fraternal order of Masons in Fairmont, WV and the Osiris Shrine Temple in Wheeling, WV.

Carl worked as an electrical engineer for 22 years for Monongahela Power in Fairmont, WV and for 23 years for Allegheny Power in Greensburg, PA.

There will be a private interment at St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA followed by a private family memorial service.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Pattie Cater.
