William Hacke Silvis

William Hacke “Bill” Silvis, 100, of Greensburg, passed away on January 14, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born April 17, 1925 to William W. Silvis and Mary Maude Johnson Silvis. He was one of six children. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joan DelVecchio Silvis; a son Timothy Silvis; a daughter Tina Silvis Peter; and two sons-in-law Thomas Kerila and Eric Peter. Bill is survived by his children Toni Kerila of Little River, SC; Teri (Gary) Moidel of Harrison City, PA; Tami (Brad) Herrington of Export, PA; and Todd Silvis of Little River, SC; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a well-known PGA Golf Professional in the area for over 54 years. If you played golf; you likely took a lesson from him. He served as the Assistant Golf Pro at Greensburg Country Club under Perry DelVecchio, and at Brentwood Country Club, California. Bill was the Golf Pro at Hannastown Golf Club for many years, at Chestnut Ridge Golf Club, and he ended his career at the Latrobe Elks.

Bill joined the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and is a veteran of WWII; honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. He began his training on Parris Island, SC and then to Camp Pendleton. He served in the Guadalcanal Campaign, during the occupation of Russell Islands, and in the liberation of Guam.

To live a hundred years; witness a century of extraordinary changes; and to be loved so deeply and respected across those years is rare.

The family would like to thank Redstone in Murrysville for his care, Bridges Hospice, and his caregivers, especially Beverly and Jean, two very special ladies who were like family to him.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 1 pm until the hour of service at 3 pm at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg.
