Welden Jones

February 25, 1943 — May 23, 2024

Welden  Jones, 81, of Greensburg passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Brookdale Latrobe. Born February 25, 1943 in Manor, the son of the late Thomas Jones and Eleanor (Lauffer) Jones. He was also predeceased by special brother-in-law, Alan Smith of Chattanooga TN. Welden was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of the varsity marching band. He loved Pitt football and basketball, having had season tickets for both teams for many years. He also was an avid Steeler fan. After graduation from Pitt, Welden was a teacher for the Hempfield Area School District for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer. Welden was a member of Ligonier Country Club for 28 years and was senior club champion several times. He found joy traveling to Myrtle Beach where he had the opportunity to play over 80 golf courses over the years. He also enjoyed bowling with the retired Hempfield Teacher's Bowling league. One of the great joys of his life was traveling to Chattanooga, TN to visit his niece and two special great nieces. Most enjoyable were the many trips to Disney World with his Chattanooga family plus the many holidays, birthdays, and graduations spent with them. He was so proud of his niece, Dr. Lisa Smith and two great nieces Camilla and Alana who are now both attending Auburn University. Welden is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lou (Bussard) Jones; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Smith; niece Dr. Lisa Smith and her husband, Dr. David Bruce; and special great nieces, Camilla and Alana Zavala all of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by many special cousins who meant a lot to him.
