Walter Dean McKeel, Sr., 89, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at home with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his children, John Earl McKeel (Audrey) of Youngwood, Deena Susanne Johnston (Ken) of Derry, James Herbert McKeel (Ida) of Irwin, Walter Dean McKeel, Jr. (Loretta) of Florida; also, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dean was abundantly blessed by the love and care of his family. His son, John and his daughter Deena were his constant companions. Together, they made sure he had everything he needed. From shared meals to weekly grocery store trips, late night or early morning phone calls or just attending his medical appointments and simply enjoy each other's company. They made sure Dean never felt alone. Dean’s son-in-law Ken loved bonding with him over sports and listening to all his amazing stories. He was recently blessed to reconnect with his son, Jimmy. Dean was also blessed with the love and devotion of his grandchildren. Brittany and her fiancé, Justin opened their home to him and his beloved cat, Angel, who remained by his side until the end. They provided all the care and support he needed. Josh, Rachel, Nick, and Breanna prioritized spending time with pap. Whether it was running errands or just helping him around the house. In his final months, he was most beautifully blessed with the time he spent and the love he received from his great-granddaughter, Everleigh Jean who was a source of joy and comfort towards the end. She did her best to make sure her great grandpa had everything he could possibly need. She was the best little nurse he could have asked for. They also loved passing time with a spirited game of Go Fish and ending each evening by sharing a big bowl of ice cream. Dean was a proud member of the Roofers and Waterproofers, Local #37 for sixty-five years. He was also the past governor and lifetime member of the Youngwood Moose #23. Dean was an avid baker of zucchini and banana bread, which he would give away to all his special friends. He loved to play cards, specifically, poker and gin rummy. He also loved hunting and fishing. Dean had so many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and special friends who touched his life in beautiful ways. The love and devotion he received is a testament to an incredible life well lived. Family and friends will be received from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A funeral service for Dean will be held at 10 am, Saturday, January 17, 2026, in the funeral home. A special thank you to Bridges, Hospice for the extremely loving and compassionate care of Dean and his family in his final days. A very special thank you to Christy for helping Dean cross over in a peaceful and dignified way and for providing tremendous support and strength to his family by remaining by their sides until the very end.
