Robert George Mertz

Robert George Mertz, 75, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Anne Home, Greensburg, surrounded by all three of his children. He was born May 10, 1951, in Greensburg, a son of the late Kenneth and Mary “Zelma” Garris Mertz.

Bob was a graduate of Greensburg Salem High School, where he played bass drum in the school band. He continued his love of music as a bass drummer with the former Green Trojans Band. Bob was very active in the bowling community and made several lifelong friends through the sport that he loved.

Bob will be remembered most for his kindness and willingness to help anyone who needed it. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and would drop whatever he was doing to give someone a ride. Bob loved to drive, and whether it was a quick trip across town or simply helping someone get where they needed to go, he was always happy to be behind the wheel. He never hesitated to make himself available to others, and his generous and caring nature touched the lives of many.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kim Allyn Kepple Mertz, in 2024.

He is survived by his children, son Robert K. Mertz; daughters, Lori Mertz and Kari Harkins and her husband, John; grandchildren, Piper and LJ Harkins; several nieces and nephews; and his granddog, Nova.

Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. Funeral services for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the funeral home.
