Richard L. (Dick) McAlpine, 88, of Greensburg passed peacefully on July 7, 2026, at home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born July 26, 1937, in Butler, PA, a son of the late Clarence R. McAlpine and Geraldine C. (Bowser) McAlpine.
Richard was a 1955 graduate of Butler High School and a 1962 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, with a master’s in electrical engineering, through their co-op program. It was here that he met the love of his life, Loretta L. Davenport, and the two were married November 8, 1958. Upon graduation, he accepted a position at West Penn Power, Lincoln Division in Jeannette, PA, and they moved to Youngwood, PA. He later transferred to the Cabin Hill Division, and they eventually settled in Greensburg, PA, where they raised their family.
Dick was a member of First Christian Church, DOC, Greensburg, where he was an elder and taught Sunday school.
He was a member of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, Truck # 2 and an EMT with Mutual Aid Ambulance Service.
Dick was a Mason and belonged to Greensburg Masonic Lodge, #225, where he was a Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master. He also was a member of the Consistory of Pittsburgh, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Syria Temple, Pittsburgh, Shriners of Pennsylvania, Blue Lodge of Pennsylvania, Order of Eastern Star, Latrobe Chapter, #221, Jeannette Order of Amaranth, White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Order of the Oddfellows.
Dick love to play cards, read westerns and travel. Since college, he was an amateur radio operator and connected with “HAMS” around the world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sibling; in-laws, Charles L. and Helen L. (Carpenter) Davenport; brothers-in-law, Clyde Davenport and wife Cindy and Ronald Shearer.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loretta M. Davenport McAlpine; his daughter, Ardith Stetz (Dave) of Greensburg, formerly of Myrtle Beach, SC; sons, Arden McAlpine (Sheri) of Greenock, PA and Randy McAlpine (AJ) of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister Luida Shearer of Indiana, PA; grandchildren, Justin Stetz (Sierra) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Collin Stetz of Cranberry, Mark McAlpine (Allison) of Bethel Park, Eric McAlpine (Deanna) of Elizabeth, PA. Scott McAlpine of McKeesport, PA and Craig McAlpine (Felicia) of Tennessee; four great grandchildren, Addison and Rhett Stetz of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Elijah and Alric McAlpine of Tennessee.
Family and friends will be received from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A memorial service by members of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will be held at 6:30 pm Sunday. On Sunday at 7:45 pm, a Masonic service will be held by members of Greensburg Masonic Lodge, #225. A funeral service for Richard will be held at 10 am Monday, July 13, 2026, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
