Joseph Edward Hornin

Joseph Edward Hornin, 96, of Greensburg, PA, quietly passed away at his home on Thursday, February 26, 2026. He was born December 30, 1929, in McKeesport, PA, a son of the late Joseph Edgar Hornin and Elsie May Miller Hornin (Dallas, Texas). He was an Army veteran and served as a combat medic in Korea where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star Medal. Joe met and married Donna M. Mehrmann for 69 years (their 70th wedding anniversary would have been on June 26th). They moved to Dallas, Texas where they lived for 39 years, returning to care for Donna’s elderly mother. Joe graduated from Arlington State University in Texas, Trade School on May 22, 1958 for television repair, and also attended several other schools all in Texas. Prior to retirement, Joseph was employed as a school bus driver for First Student. He had also worked as a steelworker. He was a proud member of the American Legion. Joseph was founder and president of the McKeesport Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing his Indian motorcycle. He also was passionate about repairing household items and was an inventor. Joseph loved flowers and propagated and grew African violets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Coment; 2 nephews, Larry Topley and Jason Coment; also, his cousin, Jan Miller. Joseph is survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna Maye Mehrmann Hornin; his children, Kimberly Suzanne Hornin, Keith Robert Hornin, and Ernest Evans, Sr; his grandsons, Jacob M. Hornin and Jonathan M. Spicer (Haley); also, numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A funeral service for Joseph will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the funeral home. Interment will be held at Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
