Jan Everett Erling

September 15, 1947 — October 27, 2025

Jan E. Erling, 78, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 27, 2025 at home. Jan was born September 15, 1947 in Bristol, Connecticut, and considered himself a New Englander his entire life. He was an Eagle Scout and began his working life with the Boy Scouts of America. The majority of his career was in sales for the freight industry, ending his career as an international sales representative for FedEx Freight. Jan is survived by the love of his life, Alice (nee Griffith). They were married in 1975 and spent 55 years together after meeting at a mixer their first week at Thiel College. He is also survived by his children, Todd (Cindy) Erling of Hudson, New York; Allison (Mark) Erdman of Towson, Maryland and Josh (Shelly) Erling of Acton, Massachusetts. He was a proud Pop-Pop to grandchildren Sophia, Gavin, Scarlett and Lucy. Jan was a golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He enjoyed rounds of golf with friends and colleagues, hunting on his son’s property in Hudson NY, and fishing in rivers, lakes and the ocean. A model train enthusiast, he loved Christmas because it meant it was time to put up his train platform. He spent hours browsing hobby shops for new additions and to share as gifts for his children and grandchildren. In recent years, reading became a favorite pastime. Jan was also a lover of dogs, particularly his late companion, Britt and a host of his children’s dogs over the years. Some of Jan’s happiest times were spent on vacations to Cape Cod and Lewes, Delaware, as well as summers spent at their cottage in New Paris on the banks of Dunnings Creek. Jan was a stem cell recipient shortly after his diagnosis of multiple myeloma. He was also very proud of being a stem cell donor. His family is forever indebted to the doctors and caregivers who cared for Jan throughout his age and health related concerns. Overall, Jan’s greatest accomplishment was as a devoted father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who called him a friend and those who loved him. Friends and Family will be welcomed from 10am to 11am on November 22nd at First Presbyterian Church 300 S. Main Street, Greensburg with a memorial service to follow at 11am in the church. Internment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Healthwell Foundation www.healthwellfoundation.org or the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org. Both were instrumental in allowing Jan to receive life saving medications. KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
