Gerry Gene Reid, 90, of Greensburg, PA, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Gerry was born August 24, 1935, in Wilkinsburg, PA, a son of the late Fred and Caryl (Chesnut) Reid. Gerry graduated from Turtle Creek High School in 1953, where he was an accomplished athlete. Gerry was Turtle Creek High School’s basketball captain and, upon graduation, was one of the school’s all-time leading scorers. Further, Gerry was a captain on Turtle Creek’s baseball team and, post-graduation, scouted by Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians, and invited to an official Pittsburgh Pirates tryout before signing a professional contract the Kansas City Athletics. Gerry was a devoted Protestant who belonged to, and served as a church elder for, the United Maplewood Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. Gerry was proudly employed as a loan specialist with Mellon Bank’s Commercial Loans department for over 30 years. In his true selfless nature, Gerry gave back to the community by participating as a Rolling Rock Races host in Ligonier, PA and a Westmoreland County’s Junior Achievement mentor while working for Mellon Bank. In addition to his parents, Gerry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Audrey A. (Olmer) Reid; brothers, Kerry and James Reid; and granddaughters Olivia and Sophia Reid. Gerry is survived by his son, Matthew D. Reid and wife Kristie, son Jeremy S. Reid; granddaughter Emily G. Reid, in-laws Donald S. and Carole L. (Olmer) Graham; William C., Jr. and Janet M. Olmer; devoted family friend, Carla Kissner, sister-in-law Jill E. Reid, niece Rachel (Reid) Szolek, niece Kristen (Reid) Miller and husband, Dennis. Honoring Gerry’s wishes, services will be private and limited to his family.
