Frederick James Snyder, 88, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his home in Greensburg, PA. He was born on April 23, 1934 in Sharon PA, a son of the late James and Erma (Hoagland) Snyder. Fred joined the navy (1956-57, rank MR-3) after graduating from Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA (1952), attended the University of Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (1964) and was also a graduate of Westinghouse’s Trades Training program (1959) as a machinist.
Fred’s employers included Westinghouse Electric (Sharon, PA and Athens, GA) as well as Elliott Corporation in Jeanette, PA. Fred was a member of the Maplewood Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, PA, Elliott Co. Retirees Club, Laurel Highlands Model Airplane Club, Chestnut Ridge Flying Club/AES (Champ Club), and enjoyed poker night with his friends.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine “Gerry” (Hamel) Snyder, his brother William Jesse Snyder, and his sons David and Mark Snyder. Fred is survived by his loving sons Matthew (Kimberly Kuhls) and Robert Snyder; his daughter-in-law Melanie Snyder; seven grandchildren: Tara, Bradley, Christopher, Elizabeth, Brett, Megan and Ryan; great grandchild Ashlynn; and loving friend Jean Gleditsch.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home Inc., 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday at the Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 208 Woodland Road, Greensburg, with the Rev. Stephen LaSor officiating. Everyone is to go directly to the church. Entombment will follow at the St. Clair Cemetery in Hempfield Township. All are welcome to join the family for a luncheon at the church afterwards.
