Charles William Knoppel

Charles William Knoppel age 94 passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 in Beaufort, SC.

Born on May 28, 1931, in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Frederick William Knoppel III and Sarah Emily Brewer. He was a graduate of Greensburg Salem High School in Pennsylvania.

He served as S/Sgt in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. He was a devoted Marine throughout his life.

He was married to Catherine Eva Kowalewski for 65 years until her passing on April 27, 2019. Remaining active in later years,participating in the Beaufort County Senior Games, YMCA, gardening, and enjoying puzzles, Sudoku, and an avid reader.

He is survived by his children: Marilynn Piznik (Karl); Charles William “Chuck” Knoppel II (Michelle); Kathleen Sugarman (Robert); William Charles Knoppel (Martha); and James Kenneth Knoppel (Lora Jean).

Grandchildren: Nelson; Shannon (Don); Charles (Jacquelyne);Gabrielle; Cassandra (Chris); Michaela; Karen; Kenneth (Robin); Jane; LilyAnna; Josh; Austin and James Coleton.

Great-grandchildren: Jack, Thomas, Jeremy, Lazlo, Brooklyn and Madilyn.

A funeral service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 Adams St, Ridgeland, SC 29936 at 3:00 in the afternoon, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
