Carl Truxal

October 29, 1927 — January 1, 2023

Carl R. Truxal, 95 of Delmont, died on January 1, 2023. He was born October 29, 1927 in Manor, the son of the late Carl and Stella (Cope) Truxal Sr.

In the midst of attending college to become a music teacher, Carl served in the United States Air Force from 1946 - 1949.

He was the last surviving member of the acclaimed 1950 Indiana State Teachers College musical quartet called the Four Chiefs along with Ed Tobin, Warner Tobin and James George.

Upon graduation, Carl started his career as a music teacher until moving on to serve as a Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal and Principal of Greensburg Salem High School.

Prior to retirement was Director of Secondary Education, Buildings and Grounds, Personnel Relations and Acting Superintendent of Schools for the Greensburg Salem School District.

Carl belonged to Rotary International, the NEA, PSEA, PMEA, and The Pa Association of School Administrators. He was a charter member, choir director and Elder of Maplewood Presbyterian Church, Greensburg and attended the Delmont Presbyterian Church for a time.  In the past he also served as choir director for First United Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Joanne (Tobin) Truxal; sister, Jeanne E. Burke; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Truxal.

Carl is survived by his three devoted children who will miss him dearly, David C. Truxal,  Steven J. Truxal, Sr. and his wife, Karen, and Susan L. McLeod and her, husband Dale; his adoring seven grandchildren, Christina Truxal, Ashley Truxal, Prof. Dr. Steven Truxal Jr. (Christian), Adam N. Truxal, Carly Helt (James), Allison Storm (Eric) and Ian McLeod; and precious great-grandsons, Carson and Griffin.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg.  Carl's  funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Steve LaSor officiating.  Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maplewood Presbyterian Church 108 Woodland Road, Greensburg, PA 15601 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association www.mda.org.
