Arlene Louise Hose

July 17, 1940 — September 10, 2025

Arlene Louise Hose, 85, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, died on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Westmoreland Hospital. Born July 17, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Walter T. Cairnes. and the late Amathy A. Near. She was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Williamsport, Maryland, Class of 1958. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved golf, reading, and vacationing in Florida. Upon graduating from high school, she began working as an accountant at Hamilton Pontiac in Hagerstown, Maryland. She left that dealership to work as a bookkeeper, accountant, and computer operator at Callas Contractors, Inc., leaving after over twenty years of service to move to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, with her husband, John, who had been transferred there. While working at Callas Contractors, she was of member of the Cumberland Valley Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction where she served as Vice President and Chair of the Float Committee, with the organization’s float winning first prize in several local parades. Soon after arriving in Greensburg, she became active in the YWCA of Westmoreland County, where she first served as manager of the Side Porch, a consignment shop which helped to raise funds for the organization. She later became Chair of the Plant and Equipment Committee before being elected to the YWCA’s Board of Directors. She was subsequently elected President of the Board of Directors. During her two consecutive terms as President, she Co-Chaired the Capital Campaign Committee which raised nearly three million dollars for the construction of the addition which houses the YWCA’s Pre-School. After completing two terms as President, she remained as Chair of the Plant and Equipment Committee coordinating the demolition of the YWCA’s Thrift Shop and the construction of the new building which replaced it. One of her fondest memories occurred after she coordinated construction of the Pre-School’s new playground. Shortly after its completion, she received a call to come to the YWCA where the children serenaded her with a song thanking her for her efforts. Arlene was a member of The Church of the Advent in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the Daughters of the King. She was also a member of Greensburg Country Club, the United States Golf Association, and a former member of The Club at Pelican Preserve in Fort Myers, Florida.
