Alfred S. Gates, Jr.

Alfred S. Gates, Jr., 84, of Greensburg, died, Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was born, April 15, 1942, in Kittanning, PA, a son of the late Rose E. Willits Gates and Alfred S. Gates, Sr.

Prior to retirement, Alfred was employed as a chemist with Kennametal. He was a member of Charter Oak Church where he was a volunteer with the food pantry. Alfred also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a mentor and tutor to school children to help them read. Alfred was a US veteran and served in the Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Roberta C. Radjenovich Gates in 2010; his siblings, Bart, Karen, Rose, Georgia, Carol and Richard.

Alfred is survived by his children, Roberta Gates, Kenneth E. Gates, Diana M. Billman (Steve) and Christine A. Gates (Adam Capo); his grandchildren, Madison, Sarah and Emily Billman and Logan, Grace, Hope and Owen Capo; his siblings, Winifred Gates, Nellie Taylor, Dorothy Greenberger, Elaine Suvak, Mary “Zir” Abraham, Wally, Harry, Tommy, Eddie, Billy and Herb Gates; also, a number of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. A funeral service for Alfred will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Charter Oak Church, 449 Frye Farm Road, Greensburg. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery.
