Albert Veenis

April 30, 1953 — December 9, 2016

Albert Bertus Veenis, 63 of Saltsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 9, 2016 at his home.

He was born April 30, 1953 in Wilkinsburg, son of the late Bertus "Albert" Veenis, an electrician at Westinghouse Electric Company, and Martha May (Creighton) Veenis.

Albert was the owner along with his wife, of La Vita's restaurant in Greensburg. He loved to read and enjoyed history and art. Albert was an avid learner who loved to teach and share knowledge. He also enjoyed gardening and was proud of his yearly vegetable garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his, paternal grandfather Ijsbrand and grandmother Trijntje (Crook) Veenis of Assendelft in the Netherlands sister, Martha (Marty) May Hess, and his beloved dog, Robbie.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rosann (Matarazzo) Veenis; sons, Kristopher Lee Veenis and wife, Eleanor and Jon Vincent Veenis and wife, Kristen; his grandchildren who he loved very much, Vincent Charles Veenis, Brayden Leonardo Veenis, and  Jane Milarski; sister, Jeannette Heline and husband, Allen; brothers-in-law, Guy Matarazzo and Jack Hess; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Robert Gallagher, Lawrence 'Larry' Franklin, and Lisa Morelli.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg.

Additional visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 1pm until the time of service at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westmoreland County Humane Society or the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
